An
assessment typically goes on for 2 days. The child is observed
for at least 2 hours on each day, making the total duration of
observation 4 hours. After collecting complete history and the
background, a child is assessed in different areas by a team consisting
of an occupational speech & language therapist, a special educator
and a counselor.
Once
the assessment is over, the parents are briefed about the strengths
and weaknesses of the child. After this, an appropriate programme
is planned out, keeping in mind, the immediate needs of the child
and the culture she belongs to. Parents are kept informed at each
stage of assessment and planning.
