Remedial Classes
MosMost children with special needs will require life
long support services, even when admitted in mainstream schools.
Though admissions to mainstream school are mandatory by law, most
government schools deal with inclusion as a formality and do not
provide appropriate services. A few progressive schools
where such children are admitted have high fee structures.
Thus,
financial limitations, either in terms of lower socio economic
status or heavy burden of fees prevent parents from seeking
appropriate remedial and/ or support services to help the child
deal with everyday problems. This inability results in poor coping
skills and abilities, in turn leading to poor retention rate in
mainstream schools.
This vicious cycle can be broken
only if remedial and/ or support services are provided without
significant increase in the financial burden of the family. We
have been fortunate to receive financial assistance to offer high
quality services at very nominal charges.
The structure of the remedial class is as follows:
Educational Plan:
Days:
5 days in a week
Timings:
9 to 11 AM, 11 AM to 1 PM, 4 to 6 PM
Age
Group:
7 to 12 years
Class Strength:
8 children per class
Curriculum:
Mainstream curricular and co-curricular work
Note: The
remedial class aims to help a child with special needs remain in a “regular
mainstream school”. At no point are
we encouraging removal of the child from a regular school
environment. |
